Herstal station is functional, but it leaves much to be desired in several respects. While it is maintained here and there, at the time of my visit all the elevators were out of service and, by the looks of it, they will never be put back into service, making it impossible for people with disabilities, those with strollers, or heavy luggage to reach the platforms—this is truly unacceptable, and the elevators urgently need to be repaired. The platforms themselves are elevated and there are a few shelters, but these lack walls, offering little protection in bad weather, all of which appears to be the result of vandalism, which is unfortunate. On the positive side, however, there are sufficient train connections to Liège-Guillemins and a train to Hasselt every hour. Hopefully, investments will soon be made in better infrastructure and more comfort for all travelers.
